Mission Statement
UKAHT’s mission is to promote a greater public engagement with Antarctica, through heritage conservation, storytelling and effective advocacy. Through the care and conservation of six designated historic sites and monuments on the Antarctic Peninsula, we aim to engage, inform and inspire current and future generations with Antarctica’s heritage. We deliver and support a range of innovative public programmes to engage and inspire people of all ages with 250 years of British human endeavour in Antarctica.
Success stories

Blaiklock Island Refuge, 2025
A tiny outpost saved
Relentless Antarctic wind and ice had damaged one of Antarctica’s smallest historic sites, leaving it vulnerable and at risk. Despite adverse weather conditions, UKAHT’s field team travelled to Blaiklock and secured its future.

Endurance Shipwreck, 2024
An iconic ship protected
Led by UKAHT, in partnership with Historic England, the Conservation Management Plabn acts as a shared vision and framework to inspire an international effort to protect and promote understanding of Endurance, for current and future generations.

Detaille Island Hut, 2024
Emergency Hut restored
In 2024, we sent a field team to Detaille Island to conduct a detailed site survey, prepare specialist reports and complete vital conservation work. It marked the first full conservation season to take place there since 2012-13.

Damoy Hut, 2023
Back to its best
In 2023, UKAHT restored Damoy Hut back to its original bright orange. The work was undertaken by a small field team who spent nearly four weeks on-site, working around challenging weather to strip back the existing paint by hand, prime, and repaint the building to its original bright orange.
