Generation Antarctica
Explore Port Lockroy with the people – and penguins – who live there.
What if you could visit one of the most extraordinary places on Earth without leaving home?
Generation Antarctica is a new live experience from the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust, giving young people aged 12–17 the chance to connect directly with the team living and working at historic Port Lockroy in Antarctica.
Go behind the scenes at Base A, Britain’s first permanent base in Antarctica; meet the people who call it home for the Antarctic summer; discover the remarkable heritage they care for; encounter the wildlife they share the island with; and find out what everyday life is really like at the end of the Earth.
This isn’t a webinar. It’s a live conversation.
Ask your own questions, join in along the way and experience Port Lockroy through the people who are actually there.

What’s happening?
Two live encounters
Take part in two live, interactive video encounters with the Port Lockroy team: Postcards from Port Lockroy and Port Lockroy Penguin Watch. Meet the people behind the base, explore life at Port Lockroy, discover UKAHT’s heritage conservation and penguin monitoring work, and bring your own questions to the conversation.
Who’s it for?
Ages 12-17
Curious young people aged 12–17. You don’t need any previous knowledge of Antarctica – just curiosity and a sense of adventure.

When is it?
Coming early 2027
The final dates and times are still to be confirmed, but those selected will take part in two exciting live online encounters with the Port Lockroy team in late January and early February 2027, from 18:00–19:15 GMT – a rare opportunity to connect directly with Antarctica and hear from the people living and working there.
Small by design
Every voice will be heard
Each live experience is limited to just 30 young people, creating space for real conversation with the Port Lockroy team. Ask the questions you really want answered, share your ideas and see where the conversation takes you.
This isn’t about sitting back and watching. You’ll be part of it.

Work with young people?
Help us reach more
We’re working with partner organisations to give even more young people the opportunity to take part in Generation Antarctica. If your organisation shares our commitment to inspiring curiosity, building connections and widening access, and you believe this could be an extraordinary experience for the young people you support, we’d love to hear from you.
