Taken from an original natural history drawing of the gentoo, this charming design depicts the parade of penguins familiar to visitors to Port Lockroy. Gentoo penguins live alongside humans at Port Lockroy and the relationship is a joyous one. These characterful animals arrived at Port Lockroy in the 1980s and have returned every season since to nest and raise their chicks. They are not intimidated by visitors to the peninsula. Often as curious as the travellers one will find them gazing in your direction, a ready made photo opportunity.
Our beautiful bone china mug uses an exclusive hand drawing of these delightful birds with a simple but stunning effect, and come ready presented in a glorious presentation box depicting ephemera from Port Lockroy of the 1950s and 1960s. Especially commissioned and designed for UKAHT.
